Women claim to have been drugged at party held by Scholz, German chancellor

Nine women reported being drugged by an unknown substance after attending the Social Democratic Party of Germany’s (SPD) annual summer party — of which Chancellor Olaf Scholz is a member — last week.

According to a police report, a 21-year-old woman began feeling “unwell and dizzy” Wednesday night after eating and drinking at the party. Unable to remember the events of the previous day, the woman was examined at the hospital and filed a complaint with the Berlin police.

The police told the CNN on Monday (11) that a toxic substance was found in the patient’s blood, which explains the symptoms and amnesia she reported.

“The task forces initiated an investigation procedure for dangerous bodily injury against a stranger and ordered a blood test, which was carried out at the hospital, for the purpose of toxicological analysis,” reads the incident report. Four additional cases were reported to the Criminal Investigation Department. A spokesperson for the SPD told CNN that reported cases have increased to nine.

“We encourage victims who have been attacked to come forward and press charges,” the SPD spokesperson told CNN on Monday. “From the beginning, we have supported the police as best we can to ensure this terrible incident is resolved,” he added.

SPD parliamentary group director Katja Mast tweeted on Saturday: “We are all shocked by this unbelievable event and will do everything in our power to clear it up.” She also advised all those affected to report the case to the police.

Around 1,000 guests attended the annual summer party that took place next to the Chancellery in Berlin. German Chancellor Scholz, as a party member, was among the guests, according to the SPD spokesman. The party was about half the normal size due to precautions against the transmission of Covid-19 and consisted mainly of internal SPD participants, a party spokeswoman told CNN .
