Women experience three times more sexual harassment in companies than men

A survey, produced by the human resources management company Mindsight, revealed that women experience three times more sexual harassment than men in the workplace, but 97% of victims do not even report the abuse.

More than 11 thousand people were interviewed throughout the country, 47.8% men, 51.5% women and 0.7% do not identify with any of the genders.

The survey also reveals that 34% of respondents assume they have already suffered bullying. In a gender perspective, 38% of women have been victims of moral abuse, but only 6.6% registered some type of complaint. Of the men, 30% reported having been victims of this type of crime, but only 6.4% reported it.

According to the survey, the main reason victims do not report the abuse is the fear of suffering some retaliation, or even being fired. For the researchers, this low number of complaints can be attributed to the fact that more than 65% of companies do not have a safe place for employees to file this type of complaint.

Mindsight CEO Thaylan Toth explains that the human resources sector of companies must always be aware of employee behavior, and keep the environment open for discussions about harassment.

“The company must analyze the indications regarding the mental health and psychological well-being of all employees, so that everyone feels safe to report these types of abuses. Despite still carrying a certain stigma on the part of some companies, it is essential to discuss these issues to ensure a work environment that is welcoming, empathetic and that really values its employees.”, he says.

The profile of the abusers was also drawn up by the company. According to those interviewed, 76% were sexually harassed by men, while 24% by women authors. In terms of bullying, 62% are men and 38% women.
