Work, Marianna: “With motherhood I became freelance”

«An employer when I asked to do two hours of smartworking from home, every day, out of the total number of hours I would have to work, he replied that he could not grant it to me otherwise he would have to do it with everyone else as well. But I was the mom there and I was simply asking to be able to save on the total cost of babysitting at least two hours a day. In another company I was sent messages and communications at any time because the philosophy was that if I did not go to work due to a problem related to the child, according to my superiors, I could also answer in the evening or late at night. Here, situations like these convinced me to definitely choose the freelance life, so as to be able to self-manage my time. And my nights ».

According to the latest data, Italy is in first place among the countries of the European Union for the number of freelancers and self-employed professionals; the registered number in 2020 and seems to 3 million and 500 thousand unit. The good news is that even for freelance moms there is a ‘maternity allowance, in this case it guarantees 80 per cent of the monthly income for five months.

“Despite the initial fears, this choice made me happy and allowed me to reconcile private and work life even if when you work from home the plans tend to overlap. The truth is that I would not have known how to do otherwise but today our project is starting to bear fruit and we are increasingly contacted by direct national and international clients and agencies who wish to work with us ».

Freelance in Pajamas avails itself of the collaboration of many minds, especially professionals: graphic designers, web designers, developers, illustrators, videomakers. “Our pairs of values stay together like the t-shirt and the pajama pants. One completes the other », Marianna and Barbara say on their blog. “They are freedom & creativity, competence & professionalism, justice & honesty”.
