THE DAEE (Department of Water and Electricity), in the state of São Paulo, started this Monday (27) the works of the Jaboticabal swimming pool, which aims to minimize the impacts of the rains in the capital and in the ABC region of São Paulo.
R$237.9 million will be invested in the construction, of which R$131.9 million will be allocated to the works and another R$106 million to the expropriation of the area.
According to the government of São Paulo, Jaboticabal will be the largest reservoir in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo and will directly benefit more than 500 thousand people. The structure will be built in the Jaboticabal stream, between the Ribeiraoes dos Meninos and the Couros, on the border between the municipalities of São Paulo, São Caetano do Sul and São Bernardo do Campo.
“This is a demand pleaded for over ten years by residents of the metropolitan region who suffer from flooding, especially during the summer rains,” said Marcos Penido, state secretary for Infrastructure and Environment.
The swimming pool will occupy an area of 154,000 m² and will have the capacity to store 900,000 m³ of rainwater. The RAC Jaboticabal Consortium, formed by the companies Passarelli Engenharia e Construção Ltda and Planova Infraestrutura Eireli, will be responsible for the progress of the works.
The tender for the swimming pool ended in May this year, and the work is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023, according to estimates by the São Paulo government.
