An Albanian boss nursing home reportedly visited by rugby star Lawrence Dalagyo, has been spared deportation after a judge called him “smart and hardworking”.
As reported by Daily Mail25-year-old Kristian Kodra, “ate” two years for running the illegal brothel he supplied cocaine and prostitutes. The gang made at least £400,000 in six months of operation before police raided the Georgian mansion in Holborn, central london, in July 2019.
For Dalayo, 50, who is married with three children, officers found he had paid £10,550 to the owners of the ‘business’ – including £3,000 to Kodra. The 2003 Rugby World Cup winner was not arrested and it was never established what paid or if he was alone on his visits.
The famous athlete did not appear or give evidence during the six-week trial in March 2020. However, his name and expenses were revealed by prosecutors. His name was revealed after an investigation by detectives who “dusted” 180,000 transactions.
However, in spite of conviction of Contra for its management brothel, possession of black money and fake IDs, the Judge ruled that he can remain in Britain. Upholding his appeal against deportation on human rights grounds, Mr judge Cordella Bart-Stewart said: “There is no evidence that he is a risk to the public. “He is an intelligent and hardworking young man with the potential to offer much to society. He has a home here and support. “It could work. I consider that the public interest does not require it deportation of the appellant from the United Kingdom’.
He also noted that he had “severe haemophilia” and would not have access to the same level of treatment in Albania – affecting his life expectancy. Contra claimed asylum in the UK when he was 15 years old and was granted a limited residence permit before appealing for an extension in 2017.
