World leaders speak again this Tuesday (8) at COP27 in Egypt

This Tuesday (8th), the second day of speeches by world leaders at COP27, which takes place in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, begins.

After speaking on Monday (7), for example, the Secretary-General of the UN, and the heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), this Tuesday those who should go to the pulpit are nations directly affected by the effects. of climate disaster.

This is the case of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistan has been hit by back-to-back weather catastrophes in recent years – floods, heat waves and wildfires – and is struggling to find the funding it needs to recover from the unprecedented floods that began in June, inundating a third of the country.

A speech by leaders from Antigua and Barbuda, a Caribbean country that is hit by rising sea levels, is also planned.

These discussions take place in the midst of the debate on climate finance by developed countries. US Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry is expected to speak with his advisers.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, will also speak on Tuesday, along with European Council President Charles Michel, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and dozens of others.

In addition, the Brazil Climate Action Hub was inaugurated this Tuesday (8th). The space within the COP was created by civil society organizations to give visibility to Brazilian climate action and has been present at the Conferences since COP25, in Madrid.

This Tuesday morning (8), the Hub organized an event to bring together female leaders “who are making a difference in climate action at the forefront of youth movements, traditional communities, companies and civil society”.
