Who can resist a good pasta ? Food that is successful in the most diverse situations, from Sunday lunch with the family to exquisite social events, the noodle is democratic and harmonizes with several drinks, including the so consumed wines.

No wonder he got a date to call his own. O world noodles day is celebrated on October 25 and the Brazilian Association of Biscuit, Pasta, Bread and Cake Industries (Abimapi) released a survey to commemorate the date that shows that the main dish of Italian culinary won the Brazilian’s table and is present in 99.5% of homes in the country.

Also according to the survey, the pasta sector recorded an increase of 11.5% in revenue and a retraction of 1.7% in sales volume, when compared to 2020 values (R$ 11.3 billion and 1, 37 million tons), reaching R$ 12.6 billion and 1.34 million tons (in 2021), respectively.

According to data from the Nielsen survey, commissioned by ABIMAPI, among the types of pasta that stood out are instant, fresh and with eggs.

In instant pasta, the volume increase reached 3% in the comparison between 2020 and 2021, totaling 195 thousand tons consumed and R$ 3.7 billion. Among the factors of good performance is the direct impact of cost-benefit, with an average unit price of R$1.69. What draws the most attention is that in 2020, with the severe restrictions of the pandemic, this follow-up had already grown 13.5% – and even with flexibilities, it did not lose progress.

Fresh pasta, on the other hand, had a decrease of only 1%, less than the total set of the category, totaling 170 thousand tons consumed and a turnover of R$ 2.8 billion. The potential of this type of product, however, is very large, since consumption is still concentrated in some places with more commercial options and aimed at a higher-income audience.

To understand the performance of the pasta category in 2021, it is still necessary to look at the Brazilian economy. The year ended with inflation calculated by the IBGE in two digits. Bills rose 10.06% for Brazilian families, even though most wages did not increase to the same extent, causing purchasing power to decline.

The factor helps to explain the advance of the group of pasta with eggs, which, unlike the global number of the category, grew 1% in volume and advanced in value. The segment represents 37% of everything consumed among the pasta in Brazil. The difference is precisely the price.

Within the types of pasta, pasta with eggs stands out because it has a price 27% lower than the average for the category, which is why it is a segment that sustains growth. “We reached 983 thousand tons consumed and a turnover of R$ 6 billion”, says Claudio Zanão executive president of ABIMAPI.

For this year, the expectation is to achieve a growth of 3% to 5% in revenue and 1% to 2% in volume. “Noodles are a relatively cheap food, belonging to the basic food basket and the population is less capitalized, reviewing their consumption priorities”, highlights Zanão.
