World Oceans Day, beauty is always bluer

Blue is the new green: this is the mantra of conscious beauty. Alongside the green one, it has also been there for some seasons la Blue Beauty. We all know the first that focuses on environmental protection, but now blue is the warm color, or the brilliant nuance of the sea and oceans which, for some time, have had a dedicated day. In fact, June 8 is World Oceans Day to turn the spotlight on the environmental issue concerning the marine eco-system.

BEAUTY IS REMEDIING
The pollution of water and seabed is a fact. For example, under the hashtag #bluebeauty, how cosmetics harm the oceans, from plastic packaging to harmful ingredients, up to the collection of elements of marine origin such as squalane and algae. Among the largest plastic producers in the world, the cosmetics industry unfortunately has a significant (and frightening) impact on the environment, in particular the marine eco-system. “Every year eight million tons of plastic pour into the oceans, in addition to the estimated 150 million that currently circulate in the seas,” he explained to Vogue UK Sarah Jay, creator of the documentary Toxic Beauty del and founder of the organization All Earthlings, dedicated to improving transparency in the cosmetic supply chain.

Fortunately, awareness of the harmful effects that the beauty industry has on the environment is growing today and, as a result, we are witnessing a greater incidence of brand clean, sustainable products and initiatives sea-friendly. There are several ways a brand can get in line with a bluer future, from creating plant-based alternatives to using marine-based ingredients, to banning the use of harmful chemicals like microspheres. that whiten corals, as well as the guarantee that all packaging is recyclable. Between organic sunscreens, plastic packaging recycled from the sea and solidarity and research projects, the beauty team is increasingly active.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BLUE BEAUTY
Among the virtuous initiatives that of Alessia Marcuzzi with her skincare brand Luce Beauty. In addition to having launched the new solar filters with respectful filters of the marine eco-system and eco-pack, the host, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Worldrise, has launched the project Clean The Beauty to support the cleaning of the most polluted Italian beaches. Each product purchased on lucebaeuty.it helps to clean up a square meter of beach. The initiative started in May and continues until October.

Since the oceans are irreparably polluting and impoverishing, blue beauty is a really important initiative. Like forests, waters are the lungs of our planet and provide essential ecosystem services without which we cannot live. Diving into the blue is a dream, but defending the seas must be a concrete reality for everyone.
