Taiwan-based TSLC introduced the world’s first 0.49mm pixel pitch LED display. The panel consists of 36 pixels. It uses SemiLEDs patented πLED LED technology and Raffar Technology drivers. Unlike other fine pitch mini-LED displays on the market, the new panel is designed for surface mounting (SMT). This is said to provide “exceptional manufacturing productivity and high maintainability.”
According to TSLC, the SMT-compliant 36-in-1 package represents a “quantum leap” over the 16-pixel package that SemiLEDs introduced 3 years ago. It eliminates the need for wired connections. Covering an area of 2.89 x 2.89 mm, the product includes 36 pixels, each of which consists of red, green and blue LEDs. A total of 108 crystals are interconnected using “high-precision micron-grade technology.” Since the LEDs are already bonded together, the number of pads for connecting each πLED package to the base board is reduced from 144 to 24. This allows larger pads to be used farther apart, greatly simplifying wiring and improving soldering reliability. Displays are supplied on tapes and reels, ready for SMT.
SemiLEDs πLED technology is available for licensing.
