A woman candidate to be the oldest person in the world, Johanna Mazibuko, has died aged 128 in South Africa. The information was given by the South African news portal News24 this Wednesday (8).
Mazibuko was alive in three different centuries, and died two months shy of her 129th birthday, on May 11th.
However, she is not officially recognized as the oldest person in the world, as the title granted by the Guinness Book of Records (Guinness World Records Book) belongs to a 115-year-old American named Maria Branyas Morera.
His caregiver and daughter-in-law, Thandiwe Wesinyana, confirmed the death and told News24 that the likely cause of death was a stroke. She was reportedly hospitalized for two weeks in February because the left side of her body felt numb. After being discharged, she reportedly died three days later.
The daughter-in-law said she is very upset and that the entire community felt Mazibuko’s death.
“We spent most days drinking tea and talking. I don’t know who I’m going to have fun with anymore. A wound was opened; my heart is aching and I am broken. The community is also suffering a lot from this, they are sad. We all lost a mother, ”she told the portal.
