Writer Roseana Murray is attacked by pitbulls in Rio de Janeiro

Writer and poet Roseana Murray, 73 years old, was violently attacked by pitbulls this Friday morning (5), in Saquarema, in the Lagos Region, in Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Fire Department, agents were called at 6:13 am to respond to an incident involving a dog attack on Avenida Ministro Salgado Filho. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that the victim had several injuries caused by dog ​​bites.

The writer received the first care at the scene of the incident. Afterwards, due to the severity of the bruises, she had to be removed by helicopter to the Alberto Torres State Hospital, where she remains hospitalized.

According to the State Department of Health (SES), the writer's health condition is serious.

In a statement, the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro reported that the animals' owner appeared at the Saquarema Police Station to give a statement. The state Military Police also confirmed that the owner of the dogs was taken to the unit to provide clarification on the incident.

The case was registered at the 124th DP – Saquarema, where investigations remain ongoing.

Who is Roseana Murray

Born in Botafogo, South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Roseana Murray is the daughter of Polish immigrants who came to the country seeking to escape the anti-Semitism of the Second World War.

Graduated in French Literature from the Alliance Française, University of Nancy, the writer has received the Best Poetry Award four times from the National Children's and Young People's Book Foundation. The Brazilian entity annually awards the best books in the genre.

Currently, Murray has published more than one hundred books of short stories and poetry for readers of all ages.
