WWF: The world must run against the climate crisis!

The goal is one and it is common to all: to win the race against the climate crisis. To this appeal of the WWF young people from all over Italy joined together as well as many Italian athletes, from Vanessa Ferrari to Gigi Datome. In the challenge against climate change, the Panda association involved Olympic athletes and sports champions, who have chosen to become protagonists of the Climate Wall to tell governments that in sport, as in the climate crisis, those who waste time are lost.

Among the athletes involved are the European champions of the women’s and men’s national volleyball team.

From the world of basketball came the selfie of Gigi Datome, from tennis that of Lorenzo Sonego, semifinalist at the last Internationals of Italy, from gymnastics that of Vanessa Ferrari. Many others are in the gallery above.

The Climate Wall is a maxi screen thanks to which young and old can join, virtually but also physically, by taking a selfie, the Youth4Climate. In fact, Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition, which involves young people aged between 15 and 29, from 197 countries, arrives in Milan, at the Central station, simultaneously with the Youth COP meetings, to develop concrete proposals that will be presented to ministers attending the Pre-COP and COP 26 conferences in Glasgow.

To be part of the large community of people who want to show their face to the WWF big picture, just download the “Climate wall” app for Ios and Android and send your selfie. The Climate Wall is also live in streaming.

The request is to limit global warming in a short time because the planet is showing more and more evident signs of suffering. From heat waves to the Drought, from wildfires in Siberia, Canada, California and the Mediterranean, to floods in central Europe and China, 2021 was a dramatic year for extreme climate impacts.

“Although scientists continually tell us that humans have caused global warming of the planet, causing” widespread and rapid “changes to oceans, glaciers and the Earth’s surface, and the increase in climate disasters confirms this every day, public debate does not seem to reflect this sense of urgency, ”he says Alessandra Prampolini, director general of WWF Italy, “We risk living in a future of poverty and social difficulty, which is why we have chosen to draw attention to the climate crisis by mobilizing, through the Climate Wall, people who, although unable to make decisions directly, want to and they can make their voices heard ».

The challenge to be overcome is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsiusthe. «The leaders must find an agreement to very strongly reduce, and in a short time zero, the emissions of greenhouse gases, starting with CO2 and methane and focus on the tandem of renewable energy and energy efficiency. It is also essential that the critical role of nature be recognized as a fundamental aid for mitigation and adaptation to climate change ».

You have to give thegoodbye to emissions and fossil fuels before 2050. It is necessary to focus on the tandem of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The role of hydrogen must be redefined, which must be green, that is, it must be obtained from renewable sources. It is necessary to restore ecosystems, anticipating the risks of today and tomorrow, in particular preserving forests, and developing adaptation plans to climate change. Cities need electrification of transport systems, energy choices, building construction standards.
