X-ray images showed a crucifix lodged in the esophagus of a 10-month-old baby. The child was treated at the Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital, in La Libertad, Peru, where he underwent an endoscopy to remove the foreign body.
The artifact was successfully removed by the medical team on Saturday (11).

“The procedure was very complicated because it was a crucifix and was lodged in the upper third of the esophagus. Even when we initially tried to remove it, we couldn’t, it was stuck, so we tried several times until I managed to remove the foreign body,” said the doctor in charge, Luis Esteves Cabanillas.
Maricarmen Sajami Rosas, the child’s mother, noticed that the baby was feeling discomfort and took her to the hospital where the team found the object. The child is now in good health.
“I thank the doctors who miraculously, because as I say, it’s like starting over. It’s a gift, a blessing, a miracle, for saving my daughter”, thanked the child’s mother.
