The recent update to the X app, formerly known as Twitter, has sparked discussions about its goals and impacts.
In an interview with CNN 360° Basílio Rodriguez Perez, advisor to the Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications Providers (Abrint), clarified that such updates are normal procedures in the world of applications.
According to Perez, “applications are normal, they tend to happen frequently in all types of applications, for security reasons, for reasons of modification in the software to improve some type of operation that was not correct”.
The expert explained that updates generally occur automatically, without the need for user intervention.
“During the night, cell phones simply check to see if there are any outdated apps and automatically update them,” said Perez, noting that this process is beneficial for the security and proper functioning of the apps.
Motivations behind the update
As for the specific reasons for the X update, Perez suggested that the platform was likely looking to innovate its functionality.
“X effectively changed the application and it was probably with the intention of finding another way of access”, stated the Abrint advisor.
This statement indicates that the update may be related to the platform’s efforts to explore new methods of interacting with users or, possibly, to adapt to changes in the digital landscape and consumer preferences.
While updates are typically automatic, Perez mentioned that users have the option to block automatic updates, though this is uncommon due to the security benefits associated with newer versions of apps.
