Xi Jinping Congratulates King Charles III on Ascension to the British Throne

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message to King Charles III congratulating him on his accession to the British throne, state news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.

Charles was formally confirmed as the new King of the United Kingdom in a ceremony steeped in tradition and pomp at St. James on Saturday.

Xi said on Saturday that he stands ready to work with King Charles III to improve mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations, while strengthening communication on global issues, Xinhua reported.

The Chinese president also highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries at ambassadorial level, Xinhua news agency reported.

Charles III is proclaimed King of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

King Charles III was proclaimed king at official public ceremonies held in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Sunday.

Public proclamations are traditional ceremonies announcing the rise of the new monarch.

The ceremonies took place in the cities of Edinburgh, Scotland, Belfast, Northern Ireland and Cardiff, Wales, at 8:00 am Brasília time.

In recognition of the new monarch, the flags have flown at full mast from the moment of the main proclamation at St James’s Palace on Saturday (10), and stayed up to an hour after the proclamations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

At 9 am this Sunday, the flags returned to half-mast in mourning for the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Then-Prince Charles immediately became king after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, this Thursday (8th). However, the official proclamation of the accession took place early this Saturday morning (10) at a ceremony of the Accession Council at St. James in London.

Charles III will meet with religious and Commonwealth leaders this Sunday

King Charles III is due to hold meetings at Buckingham Palace on Sunday afternoon with religious and Commonwealth leaders, according to a palace statement.

The King is expected to receive the Secretary General of the Commonwealth and the Dean of Windsor, Buckingham Palace said. He will also attend a reception with the kingdom’s high commissioners.

The Dean of Windsor is the spiritual head of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle – where Queen Elizabeth will be buried alongside her parents, sister and Prince Philip.

On Saturday, Charles pledged the rest of his life to the monarchy after he was formally confirmed as the new king of the United Kingdom during a ceremony at St. James.
