“Everything we discussed yesterday was leaked to the newspapers. This is inappropriate and this is not the way we agreed to conduct our discussion,” Xi Jinping said. He also noted that dialogue must be honest. “Otherwise, it will be hard to say how this can all end,” the Chinese leader continued.
For his part, Trudeau, after listening to Xi, replied that “in Canada they believe in open and honest dialogue. We will continue to work constructively together, but there will be things on which we will disagree.”
“Let’s create the right conditions first,” Xi Jinping said, shook Trudeau’s hand and left.
