Xiaomi 200-watt charger saves 80% battery capacity even after 800 cycles

Xiaomi has answered some of the questions related to the new 200-watt wired and 120-watt wireless charging technologies, which were announced at the end of May this year.

These technologies are intended for future premium smartphones and are unlikely to appear in the company’s devices this year. One of the questions asked raised the topic of the safety of charging at such a high power. Xiaomi has confirmed that the technology is safe to use and added that it has been in use for a long time, however in the field of research and development. The company said 40 safety and security measures are included in this new charging technology.

When asked about the battery life and the effect of 200-watt charging on its residual capacity, Xiaomi said that after 800 charge cycles, the battery retains 80% of its original capacity. This figure is much better than required by the Chinese industry standard (at least 60% after 400 cycles).

During the announcement, Xiaomi stated that 200W wired charging can charge a 4000mAh battery up to 50% in just three minutes, while it takes about 8 minutes to fully charge. 120W wireless charging can charge a 4000mAh battery to 50% in 7 minutes, and a full charge takes 15 minutes.

It is not yet known which Xiaomi smartphone will support such technologies. Sources said today that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 will be able to break the historic charging speed record.
