Xiaomi and Redmi team up. What does this mean for buyers and what to expect

Xiaomi releases its smartphones under several sub-brands – initially there was only one branch in the form of POCO, but in January 2019, Redmi also separated from the parent company. Now the corporation is carrying out a new reorganization, within the framework of which it combines the product departments of Xiaomi, Redmi and Pad together – into the smartphone products department (the name may be inaccurate due to translation from Chinese). So far, there are no official statements, but the authoritative publication Sina Tech reports that the corresponding document has already been signed.

Ling Xiaobing, who headed Redmi’s product department before the reorganization, became the head of the new merged department.

There are two reasons for restructuring. The first is related to the recent departure of Chang Cheng, head of Xiaomi smartphones. The other is due to the desire to strengthen the relationship between the divisions responsible for the release of Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones, as well as Pad tablets.

However, what is meant by this is not entirely clear. Perhaps specialists will work together on hardware and software, fix and solve problems together, and bring innovations. This version seems the most logical, because now, judging by the comments on the forums, even Xiaomi and Redmi gadgets with identical fillings may differ in terms of stability.

  • To the point: Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones are not the same. Main differences

It is worth noting that these departments seem to have synergized quite closely before: for example, when announcing device support, Xiaomi mentions its gadgets, Redmi products, and Pad tablets. But Poco is not among them.
