Xiaomi continues to capture the global smartphone market. According to the latest report from research firm Canalys, the Chinese manufacturer took over 21% of Thailand’s smartphone market in the second quarter and overtook Samsung for the first time.
Interestingly, Samsung dropped immediately to third place, and the second went empty to the Chinese company Oppo, which took 19% of the local market. Vivo and Realme are ranked fourth and fifth on the list of the most successful smartphone vendors in Thailand.

Xiaomi managed to take the lead in Thailand as the company’s second-quarter shipments grew 200% over the same period last year. Interestingly, Xiaomi was the only brand to see positive growth in shipments, as Oppo, Samsung, Vivo and Realme all registered 2%, 15%, 31% and 28% declines, respectively.
Smartphone shipments for Xiaomi are also growing rapidly in Latin America, Africa and Western Europe, reaching 300%, 150% and 50%, respectively. In doing so, the company faces competition from Oppo and Vivo, which are set to launch an extensive campaign to increase their market share.
Globally, Xiaomi became the second largest smartphone brand in the second quarter, and in June it was able to overtake Samsung and temporarily lead the global market.
