Xiaomi commented yesterday that it is ditching the Mi brand in the names of its new products. The information was posted as an update to the original post posted yesterday on the XDA Developes site.
The company wants users to associate its smartphones and other products with the Xiaomi brand, not the Mi. Therefore, future mobile devices, smart gadgets and accessories will be called simply Xiaomi and have a corresponding model number.

Starting from the third quarter of 2021, the Xiaomi Mi product series will be renamed to Xiaomi. This change will unify our global brand presence and narrow the perception gap between the brand and its products. It may take some time for the change to take effect in all regions.
With the introduction of the new brand identity, two separate product lines will be located under the parent brand. Xiaomi products represent the pinnacle of technology and offer a first-class experience. Redmi products bring great innovation at a more affordable price and target a younger audience. This differentiation is also reflected in our updated logos, where the Xiaomi and Redmi logos are under the parent brand logo.
The product series naming convention – Xiaomi and Redmi – will also apply over time to our ecosystem and IoT products.
