Smartphone manufacturers are testing all sorts of variants of their future flagships, and many of them never make it to store shelves. Xiaomi is no exception.

The Chinese social network Weibo published an interesting selection of photos showing the back panels of engineering samples of Xiaomi smartphones, which by the time mass production began, were eliminated and did not go on sale.

Among them, one cannot name completely unsuccessful or ugly. Just a dozen variations from Xiaomi Mi 9 Red Ceramic (2019) and the never-released Xiaomi Mi 6 Pro to the “Damascus” Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. Xiaomi did not release the last variation, but used the idea in the brand new Redmi K40 Damascus.
