Xiaomi has filed a patent for a new smartphone camera, which, in fact, is a single module of the main and front cameras. Moreover, the frontal one is also subscreen!

The idea is to use a camera of several modules in a smartphone, while one of the modules will be able to rotate 180 degrees and shoot what is happening in front of the smartphone screen. In the schematic diagram, such a module is colored orange.

This module will only rotate when you start shooting from the front camera. To do this, the company uses a magnetic drive – it is durable and inexpensive. A drive with a similar operating principle is responsible for extending the additional side keys from the case in the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition gaming smartphone. As noted, the “magnetic component” will be attached to the back of the PTZ unit.
Such a camera can be implemented in conjunction with any type of screen, both liquid crystal and OLED. Also, such a smartphone is assigned a laser autofocus assistant – as in the Mi 9.
Of course, registration of a patent (in this case, it appeared in the database of the World Intellectual Property Organization, WIPO) does not at all mean the use of technology in a serial model in the near future. However, this does not mean that such a model cannot appear a little later – within a couple of years. In the meantime, the main obstacle to the implementation of such an unusual camera is the fact that it uses a large number of components that take up a lot of space inside the body of the smartphone.
