Xiaomi has promised to release three major Android updates for smartphones, but only for future ones

Rarely does an Android smartphone manufacturer offer long-term software support, especially for Chinese brands. But Xiaomi decided to stand out from the competition and follow Samsung’s lead by extending the release period for software updates.

Most smartphone manufacturers typically offer their customers two years of regular operating system updates and three years of security updates. Now Xiaomi is one of them, but it has already promised that its future mobile devices will be able to expect to receive regular OS updates within three years from the date of release. Albert Shan, head of the Xiaomi product line, spoke about the company’s plans. The brand’s first smartphones with extended software support will be the Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro, which are expected to launch in September.

“Xiaomi continues to extend the lifecycle of its smartphones by providing three generations of Android updates. Thus, users can use their mobile devices for a longer period while gaining access to the latest features. In addition, we will also provide security updates to keep the devices running securely for an even longer period of time, ”said a top manager at Xiaomi.

Xiaomi also confirmed that the company is now exploring the possibility of extending the period of software support for more of the brand’s mobile devices.

It should be recalled that recently, owners of Samsung smartphones can count on three major Android updates and four years of regular security updates. This applies to all models released after 2019.
