Xiaomi introduced a modular robot designer on Linux. Appears in Russia

The so-called Xiaomi ecosystem includes many companies, one of the largest of which is Mijia. At the end of September, she introduced an unusual robot designer Mijia Modular Robot with modular parts that can be programmed. At the same time, the novelty is focused on children – everything is done through the companion app on a smartphone and is simplified as much as possible.

The basic set of the robot consists of several blocks: the head (equipped with a display, camera and sensors), “joints” and endings. It will be possible to purchase additional modules for it and combine them into a single whole – it will be possible to create over 50 configurations, giving the gadget a completely different look and shape (from an “octopus” to a “pillar”).

Thanks to built-in sensors, including an ultra-wide-angle camera, ToF, light sensor, ultrasonic sensor, inertial measurement unit and geomagnetic sensor, the robot is interactive – it reacts to human actions (for example, gives a “paw” or substitutes a “head”), more than 200 reactions. For movement, he uses wheels or “legs” – modules with pressure sensors.

Mijia Modular Robot is based on the Ubuntu 18.04 + ROS 2 operating system, it has an unnamed ARM processor and 8 GB of RAM (128-bit, LPDDR4x). Through a proprietary application, it can be programmed.

Sales of Xiaomi Mijia Modular Robot should begin worldwide, its page is already appearing in Russian stores. For example, Mijia-Shop.ru lists the price of 36,990 rubles for the basic set.
