In addition to Redmi and Poco, Xiaomi also has Black Shark, a separate sub-brand focused exclusively on the production of gaming devices. He has already released the fifth numbered generation of his smartphones, which includes the Black Shark 5, 5 RS and 5 Pro. All of them are notable for their relatively low cost – the best model is significantly cheaper than modern flagships. In addition, the sub-brand introduced branded peripherals. Black Shark 5 Pro
Black Shark 5 Pro has become the top model of the line. It is the only one powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The chip is cooled by vapor chambers on each side (4323mm² + 997mm²). It is complemented by 16 GB of LPPDR5 RAM together with an unusual storage of 512 GB (in one of the modifications). It consists of two modules: one is the NVMe SSD standard, the other is the familiar UFS 3.1. The manufacturer emphasizes that he was able to greatly increase the speed of random reading and writing using DM Cache technology. Moreover, he provided the option of a RAM-disk – fast RAM (6400 Mb / s) can store data like a regular drive if you need maximum performance.
The 4650 mAh battery charges with a 120 W ultra-fast adapter (0 to 100% in 15 minutes), but also supports charge rate limiting to keep the temperature cool – in this mode, the full energy replenishment rate increases to 24 minutes. Separately, the option of using energy exclusively from an external power source when it is connected (bypassing the battery) is highlighted.
The 6.67-inch AMOLED display supports HDR10+ and DCI-P3 color gamut. Gaming specs: 144Hz refresh rate at 720Hz readout rate. The smartphone has two light sensors at once: one in front, the other in the back. A separate touch button for additional control in games is installed on the side.
There are 3 cameras on the back: a 108MP main camera with a 1/1.52-inch sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide angle with a 120-degree field of view, and a 5MP macro telephoto (focus at a distance of 3-7 cm).
Chinese prices for the Black Shark 5 Pro start at 4,200 yuan ($660), with a global sale to be announced later.
Black Shark 5 RS
Black Shark 5 RS has become a simplified version of the Pro version. It has the same storage technology, same display and side button. But last year’s processor (Snapdragon 888 or 888+, depending on the memory layout), a simplified main camera (by 64 megapixels) and a slightly reduced battery (up to 4500 mAh, but also with 120 W support). It’s strange that the RS version comes with Joy UI 12.8, while the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro get the new Joy UI 13.
The smartphone will start selling at a price of 3,300 yuan ($520).
Black Shark 5
In this model, the processor was simplified even more – Snapdragon 870, but two vapor chambers were not sacrificed. They saved on memory – the storage is not divided in half (only a module of the UFS 3.1 type is used).
The display is completely identical to the brothers, there is also an additional button on the side. The main cameras are exactly the same as the RS version. The battery is the same as in the Black Shark 5 Pro, with all the accompanying technologies.
The base Black Shark 5 will go on sale starting at 2,700 yuan ($425).
Peripherals Black Shark
Of the additional devices, the company most of all focused on branded TWS headphones. They are based on the Snapdragon Sound platform and are equipped with 12mm drivers, and active noise cancellation is also supported (40 dB reduction is guaranteed).
As befits a gaming headphone, these have taken care of the sound delay – it is only 85 ms. Together with the case, the total autonomy is 30 hours, the case supports fast charging (3 hours of work in 15 minutes of charging). The headphones themselves are splash-proof to IPX4. They are priced at 450 yuan ($71).
Black Shark also introduced a pair of chargers based on GaN technology. The 120W model will cost 300 yuan ($47), while the 30W version will cost 30 yuan ($11).
Separately, it is worth noting a thermal case for a smartphone (100 yuan or $16) and an external cooling fan (220 yuan or $45), the latter will be available for pre-order.
