Xiaomi has introduced Loop LiquidCool technology. This is a cooling technology for smartphones, inspired, as Xiaomi itself, by solutions from the aerospace industry.
Loop LiquidCool relies on a capillary effect to attract the coolant to the heat source and then distribute to cooler areas. Xiaomi claims its technology is more efficient than traditional vapor chamber solutions.
The technology includes an annular heat pipe system consisting of an evaporator, a condenser, a redistributing chamber, and guide tubes. In general, the technology is similar to the usual heat pipes or evaporation chambers, but Xiaomi says that the new form factor makes it more efficient, also because gas and liquid do not mix in the same volume.
To provide one-way circulation, a Tesla valve is used, which allows liquid to pass through the evaporator, blocking the movement of gases in the wrong direction.
For the demonstration, Xiaomi replaced the standard cooling system in the Mix 4 smartphone with Loop LiquidCool, which reduced the temperature by 8.6 degrees, to 47.7 degrees.
The first smartphones with Loop LiquidCool will be released next year.
