After the sandal with the slowdown of Samsung smartphones in Geekbench, it became known that Xiaomi smartphones behave in a similar way. John Poole, co-founder of Primate Labs and creator of Geekbench, found that the Xiaomi Mi 11 scores noticeably lower in a modified version of Geekbench.
He simply renamed Geekbench to Fortnite, Genshin Impact, and other games. The results show a 30% decrease in performance in single-threaded mode, and a 16% decrease in performance in multi-threaded mode.
On this occasion, Xiaomi made an official statement: “Xiaomi applies temperature management strategies to ensure optimal product experience, especially with resource-intensive applications that are often used for a long period of time. We offer 3 performance modes on many of our devices, allowing users to fine-tune the balance between performance and energy efficiency. At the system level, all application performance optimizations take into account many important factors such as power consumption, performance and thermal load.”

In the end, Xiaomi did not deny the allegations and acknowledged the use of “thermal management strategies” to adjust power consumption and performance in order to “ensure optimal product quality.”
Xiaomi also implies that performance limitations can be bypassed with built-in performance modes. Switching to performance mode should prioritize performance by reducing battery life. However, this feature is only available on newer Xiaomi phones.
