The Chinese news outlet Sina Tech today, July 16, citing its sources, reported that Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, plans to present the first prototype of his own electric car at an event in August this year. The information publication also reports that after the official presentation, the show car will be sent for road tests – the manufacturer even plans to test the new vehicle in winter conditions. Moreover, a PR team has already been formed for a new car brand and the first product of this company – a marketing campaign will begin immediately after the official announcement.
However, such active actions to promote Xiaomi’s first electric car are fully justified – at the beginning of last year, the company’s management allocated an impressive $ 10 billion for the development of the automotive division. Ultimately, Xiaomi Auto will build a full-fledged factory and research center in China, so that as a result, it will be able not only to develop new models, but also to produce approximately 300,000 cars per year at the full capacity of the new plant. Of course, against the background of large companies producing millions of cars over the same period, the figure does not seem very impressive, but for a new brand it is more than worthy.
But at the initial stage, according to insider information, the company will produce 150 thousand cars a year – probably, the manufacturer has assessed its capabilities and determined the optimal batches. But, unfortunately, it will be impossible to see the Xiaomi electric car on public roads in the near future – the first batch of cars will leave the factory in 2024 (if the deadlines are not shifted). Moreover, Chinese publications report that the company wants to release four different models at once, some of which will conquer the luxury segment, while others will receive support for autonomous driving of the second (and even third) level.
