Today, April 28, Yandex employees officially presented an upgrade to their weather forecast service – now the system will offer thematic forecasts that will be of interest primarily to those users whose activities or hobbies are directly dependent on weather conditions – about this with reference to the press Center reported the publication IXBT. True, so far the service operates only in a limited format – weather forecasts are available for gardeners, but the developers are actively working to expand the list of potential “clients”.
“We have released a forecast for gardeners for the May holidays, because many will go to the country. There will be more such predictions in the future. Data for water sports enthusiasts is already being tested, then a forecast for fishermen, tourists, cyclists and runners will appear. Thanks to Meteum technology, they will be able to learn about the weather at any point on the map,” said Alexander Ganshin, head of the service.
Accordingly, thematic forecasts will contain the information necessary for a particular lesson. For example, gardeners are informed about soil moisture and temperature, the possibility of frost, and other important variables. This will help to assess the situation in order to plan the planting of something, decide on the opening of greenhouses, and so on. If earlier users had to search for information of this kind in various sources, now everything they need will be placed in a convenient and understandable form in one application. Unfortunately, data on what information will be provided to other types of classes is not currently reported.
But, probably, the new features of the service will really be useful for fans of active sports and outdoor recreation enthusiasts who were previously afraid of getting wet or catching a cold.
