Yandex began tracking the robot of Yandex Food service couriers using Bluetooth beacons – beacons. Thus, it will collect information about how long the courier waited for the order at the restaurant, which in turn will allow more accurate forecasting of delivery times and speed up order fulfillment.
Beacons are miniature devices with increased autonomy, the prototype and software were developed by Yandex Go and Yandex Food programmers. These beacons can determine with high accuracy when the courier came for his order to the restaurant and took it away. They will be installed next to the order pickup window. Yandex wants to use the information received in order to know the cooking time of a particular dish. Accordingly, the courier will spend less time waiting for the order at the restaurant. The beacons receive a radio signal from the courier’s smartphone when he arrives at the restaurant and send the data to the Yandex server.
At the moment, the service team is already testing beacons in the Many Salmon network in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the future, it is planned to use beacons at some Tasty – and that’s the point enterprises. Yandex intends to finalize the prototype and make it more compact for serial production.
Restaurants will also receive information from beacons, they will be able to see at what points in their network the issuance of orders is delayed. Data analysis will be carried out by Yandex Food machine learning algorithms, which will show users more accurate order preparation forecasts for each restaurant. The courier will be able to use this information so as not to linger in the restaurant for a long time. In addition, in the future, he will not have to manually change the status in the application, it will change automatically as soon as the beacon detects his arrival at the restaurant.
