Yandex Browser now has a function of voice-over translation of videos from YouTube, Vimeo and other services. For the first time, the voice-over mode was introduced back in July, but then it worked in test mode only in the PC version of the browser and with a limited number of videos. And now it has become available to all Yandex Browser users, regardless of the device type and platform.
Yandex Browser offers to automatically translate into Russian and dub almost any videos posted on YouTube, Vimeo and some other popular platforms, with the exception of licensed content (you won’t be able to translate a new series of a fresh series from Neflix in this way). So far, the function is only available for English-language videos, but in the future Yandex plans to add new language pairs and voices. This, according to the idea of the domestic Internet giant, will help erase language boundaries on the Internet.
It is noted that the entire video translation process takes several minutes. First, the system recognizes the text on the video, converting the audio track into text. After that, the neural network breaks the received text into sentences, translates it and synthesizes the voice taking into account gender. Then the original track is muted and a new track is superimposed on it. Neural networks also help with this. So far, only two voices are available for voice acting – male and female (Alice’s voice assistant). Yandex took about a year to develop the video translation system.
