Some Russian media, citing Vedomosti, hastened to report that Yandex’s unmanned taxis will appear in Moscow in February. Allegedly, the Russian government has eliminated interdepartmental differences over the program of an experimental legal regime (EPR), within which the service should be launched, and a corresponding resolution should be adopted this month. The publication “RIA Novosti” sent a request to the press service of Yandex, and they replied that the exact dates of the launch of the service in Moscow were not yet known, and the EPR was at the final stage of approval.
As soon as the decree on the EPR program is signed by the government, Yandex will send reports on tests of unmanned vehicles to the Ministry of Economy every six months. At the first stage, the company intends to launch an unmanned taxi service near the Yasenevo, Novoyasenevskaya and Bitsevsky Park metro stations. Initially, only test participants who submitted applications will be able to use the service. The company noted that more than 10 thousand people expressed their desire to use the service.
For the first time, Yandex announced plans to launch unmanned taxis in the capital and the region in September 2021. The search giant said that it will be possible to call an unmanned taxi in the Yandex Go application. Cars will stop at public transport stops, and the cost of the trip will not differ from a regular taxi.
