The Yandex team announced the launch of server production in Russia together with the Lanit group of companies, the computer equipment manufacturer Gigabyte and VTB Bank.
The companies will create a joint venture that will open a development center – it will design servers and offer its products in Russia and abroad. This agreement was signed on June 3 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The joint venture will build a plant in Russia. It will produce servers and storage systems for data centers, as well as gateways and components for smart devices, for example, for the Internet of Things. The first servers should be released as early as 2022.
Yandex and Gigabyte will provide patents, technologies and their own development of server hardware. Gigabyte specialists will also be engaged in launching and debugging production. Yandex and Lanit will provide investments for the project, in addition, Lanit will provide distribution and service centers. VTB will act as a financial investor.
Even before the opening of the plant, Yandex plans to partially transfer the production of its servers from China and Taiwan to Russia. Yandex will not only install these servers in its own data centers and use them to expand the Yandex.Cloud cloud platform, but together with partners will offer them to the market. Yandex servers can be used for storing information, machine learning, working with big data, and other tasks.
