Yandex conducted a study in which it found out which browser games are popular among Russian residents. After analyzing search queries, Yandex Games analysts found out which browser games are played by users of all ages from different cities of Russia. By the way, if we take into account million-plus cities, then most often such games are searched for in Omsk, Chelyabinsk and Perm.
Users under the age of 24 choose games for the company, while older people most often look for educational games, as well as games for children and cars. After 45 years, searches are dominated by online versions of classic board games, including solitaire and backgammon. It is noteworthy that at the age of 25-44, Russians are twice as likely to search for the games they played as a child on the console. For example, there are such requests as “dandy simulator” or “sega games online”.
Residents of different cities have different gaming preferences. So, in Chelyabinsk, they are more often looking for games about tractors, in Kazan – about makeup, in Moscow – dominoes, and in Rostov-on-Don – backgammon. Below on the map you can see the most popular types of games that users from million-plus cities are looking for at least one and a half times more often than the average.
The company separately analyzed which cities are more likely to search for browser-based versions of classic board games. For example, mahjong is in Moscow and St. Petersburg, chess and checkers are in Kazan, Samara and Nizhny Novgorod, and backgammon is in the south of Russia and in the capital.
Analysts noted that the number of players in browser games is constantly growing. Over the past year, the monthly audience of Yandex Games has more than doubled and now exceeds 39 million people. Among the main reasons are the ability to play for free and without first downloading the game. In this regard, the number of games on the platform is also growing, now there are more than 13 thousand of them.
