The domestic Internet giant Yandex has become part of an international working group to create a single protocol for a smart home called Matter. Its development will allow unifying smart devices, making them more accessible and convenient for a wide audience.
Yandex joined Apple, Google and Amazon, which initiated the creation of the universal Matter protocol. In total, the working group today includes more than 300 companies from all over the world, which means that the development of the standard will be carried out taking into account the specifics of different countries. The protocol is aimed at reducing the so-called fragmentation and ensuring stable interaction between devices and smart home systems from different manufacturers.
According to Sergey Melnik, head of Yandex’s smart devices business, the company wants to be involved in the process of creating a single standard, behind which is the future of the world market for smart home systems. And the fact that world giants are actively investing in the project only confirms this.
Yandex sees great potential for smart home systems in Russia. In the last year alone, the audience of Yandex smart home users has quadrupled and this is not the limit.
The introduction of the new protocol will make the production of smart devices for the home easier and cheaper, and implement compatibility with voice assistants. The first gadgets created according to the new standard will debut in 2022.
