Yandex will remove from search Lostfilm, Kinogo and more: anti-piracy memorandum 2.0 has been developed

A week ago, on December 7, a scheduled meeting was held in Roskomnadzor, during which representatives of Internet companies and copyright holders came to a decision to sign a new version of the anti-piracy memorandum, which will regulate illegal content on the Internet. For example, an important component of the new “Memorandum 2.0” is a mechanism for punishing recidivist pirate sites – if more than 100 units of pirated content are posted on a certain domain name, it will be removed from search results. This, as Mikhail Demin, president of the media communications union, told the Vedomosti news outlet, a very important punishment.

According to the ISS statistics, over the three years of the original memorandum, more than 31 million links to pirated content were removed from the search results, and 20% of domain names that were caught in piracy posted more than 100 links to illegal copies of TV series or films on their platform. … The complete removal of such sites from the SERP should increase the effectiveness of the fight against piracy on the Internet. In addition, the authors of the new memorandum have thought out a mechanism for combating domain “gluing” – this is an incredibly popular tool among pirate sites that allows them to return to their previous position in search results even after the original domain with links has been removed from the search results.

At the same time, the creators of “Memorandum 2.0” have also developed special protection mechanisms that will not allow the system to remove legal sites from the issuance. For example, sanctions for the removal of pirated content will not apply to legal sites such as government websites, online media, social networks and video services, which are included in the Roskomnadzor register of audiovisual services. In addition, the authors of the new version of the anti-piracy memorandum proposed extending the document’s effect not only to audiovisual content, but also to many other types of intellectual property.

For example, representatives of the book and music industry were invited to join this memorandum, who, judging by the information provided by Vedomosti, are already taking part in the discussion of the new version of the anti-piracy document. Probably, in the future, links to sites offering to download illegal copies of books or music tracks will be removed from the search.

It is planned to adopt a new version of the memorandum with all the proposals of the working group by the end of 2021, after which this document will be valid for three years.
