Then they found in his house a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, usually used by hunters to make the traces of game blood disappear. In the end, after the Adige returned the body of his mother Laura on 6 February and the autopsy ascertained that the woman was strangled, Benno was arrested.
The thirty-year-old refused to speak immediately, making use of the right not to answer. But then, in prison, something must have clicked in his mind. Hence the confession. The magistrates asked for a probative incident to establish whether the young man, who in the past had problems such as to require psychiatric treatment, is capable of understanding and willing.
