Yevgeny Prigozhin: Wagner boss claiming ‘laurels’ for Russian victories in Ukraine

THE Yevgeny Prigozhin he may have been in prison during the Soviet Union, but now he is the head of the notorious payroll Wanger group, which scores the most successes for the Russian army in Ukraine war.

Taking advantage of this fact, he sometimes publicly criticizes Vladimir Putin, but without losing the favor of the Russian president, while trying to enlarge his organization. Now, he is seeking more of Vladimir Putin’s favor by claiming a rare victory on the battlefield in Ukraine.

His aim is to build on the success of his Wagner mercenary organization this week in driving Ukrainian forces out of the city Solenara move that reinvigorates Russian plans to seize more of eastern Ukraine after multiple defeats.

Russia today claimed it had prevailed, after Ukraine said its forces were holding their positions after a “hot” night of fighting. Reuters could not immediately verify the situation in the city.

One of the military bloggers who help shape Russians’ view of the war likened Prigozhin to a Roman centurion who is allowed to operate above and outside the law to achieve Putin’s goals.

“A few more successful Wagner operations and online polls nominating Prigozhin for defense minister will cease to be a fantasy,” Zinov said.

Even the Igor Girkin , a Russian nationalist and former Federal Security Service (FSB) officer who helped start the 2014 Donbass war and has been sanctioned by the US, said Prigozhin did not care about the lives of his men. He also said that the capture of Soledar and neighboring Bahamut is not important from a military point of view.
