“You are in our sights, we will kill you” – Threats against the life of the judge who will preside over the trial of Donald Trump

On August 5, Abigail Jo Shrey, a resident of Alvin, Texas, left a racist phone message containing death threats at Judge Tanya Chatkan’s office in Washington, according to a lawsuit filed by a U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent.

In the message, the 43-year-old woman called Chatkan a “stupid black slave” and stated: “you are in our sights, we want to kill you”according to the document filed in federal court for the Southern District of Texas.

“If Trump is not elected in 2024, we will kill you, so watch out”the arrested woman threatened, adding that the judge’s family is also a target.

She also threatened to kill anyone who prosecuted Donald Trump, naming Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, according to the document. Yesterday, Wednesday, a judge ordered that he be arrested and brought before a court.

The 77-year-old Trump is currently the favorite in the race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination ahead of the 2024 election, but as he tries to return to the White House he faces four criminal trials.

Judge Chatkan, 61, will preside over the trial of the former president, who is accused of trying to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election, which was won by his Democratic rival Joe Biden. Donald Trump was indicted on August 1st for conspiracy against the state in this case.

Two years ago, the judge rejected an appeal by Trump, who argued that, as president, he could not hand over documents to a congressional committee investigating the 2021 attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters.
