The 40-year history of the legendary Mitsubishi Pajero SUV can be considered complete. The Japanese automaker has finally withdrawn the popular model from sale.
The departure of Mitsubishi Pajero from the market was gradual. First, in 2018, the brand took it off sale in European countries, in the spring of 2019 it left the Japanese market, then in the fall of the same year it left the Russian market. Now Mitsubishi has completely halted production of its most successful SUV, releasing a farewell 800 Pajero Final Edition exclusively for the Australian market. It differs from the regular version of the car by special nameplates on the body, unique floor mats and luggage racks and a black hood deflector. Along with the end of production of Mitsubishi Pajero, the company also closed its Pajero Manufacturing plant in the Japanese prefecture of Gifu, where, in addition to this SUV, the Outlander and Delica D: 5 were assembled.
Mitsubishi Pajero will not have an heir, at least not in the near future. But it is possible that the manufacturer will later restart the Mitsubishi Pajero in a new format, for example, in the form of a crossover.
