Another nice addition in iOS 15.2 is that Apple has finally added the ability to wipe data and factory reset iPhone or iPad right from the lock screen. The new feature appears after the user makes the maximum number of password attempts allowed.
Once your iPhone or iPad is unlocked, factory reset is as easy as shelling pears. To do this, just go to the settings and select the appropriate option. However, until now, to do this on a locked device, you needed a computer, that is, you had to put your iPhone in DFU mode and then connect to your PC or Mac to restore using iTunes.
As long as your locked iPhone or iPad has an active network connection, you can wipe your device right from the lock screen. Provided it is running iOS 15.2 or later operating system. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to enter the password, the Erase iPhone button will appear at the bottom of the screen. Next, you will need to enter your Apple ID password, after which the device will reboot and reset to zero.
If you can’t connect to Wi-Fi or a cellular network, you won’t be able to erase data from your device. In this case, you will have to resort to the traditional method – DFU -> PC.
