“You can’t build a wall against the climate crisis,” warns UN director

“If you live on a small island in the Pacific, you are not emitting anything, but you are receiving the impact of it. Your country could even disappear.” The words serve as a warning to Inger Andersen Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNDP).

In an exclusive interview with CNN during her visit to Brasília, Inger reinforced the importance of thinking about the planet as a collective in which actions against nature are felt in any part of the world, regardless of its condition. The director argued that the way to face the climate crises, which are already a challenging reality for countries, is to seek unity among all.

Inger was emphatic in reinforcing that “if you live with climate change, I live with it too. We can’t build a wall and say, ‘We don’t want to deal with this. This is a problem that affects everyone.’”

The statement was shown on CNN Brasil, on the premiere of “CNN Sustainability ”, hosted by anchor Márcio Gomes and climate and environmental analyst Pedro Côrtes. The program gives a voice to the greatest experts on the subject and, with special reports, shows several solutions adopted in Brazil and around the world to accelerate the transformations needed for a better planet.
