Two medical students published a video on a social network to mock a patient who had already undergone three heart and kidney transplants. The video was published in February and deleted on Tuesday (8).
“So, I don’t know. This girl is thinking there’s seven lives? I don’t know,” says one of the students. The students were identified as Gabrielli Farias de Souza and Thaís Caldeiras Soares Foffano.
The published video was recorded on the premises of the Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo School of Medicine (FMUSP), where the patient Vitória Chaves da Silva, 26, was hospitalized. The patient died on February 28, days after the video recording.
“The second time, she transplained, she did not take the medicines she needed to take, her body kind of rejected and had to transplant again for her mistake,” said the other student. Watch video below:
In a statement, FMUSP reported that the students involved in the case are graduates from other institutions and were in the hospital because of an extension course of one month. “As soon as the fact was became aware of, the students of origin of the students were notified so that they can take appropriate action,” the statement says.
“FMUSP vehemently repudiates any form of disrespect for patients and reaffirms non -negotiable commitment to ethics, human dignity and values that guide good medical practice,” he said.
After the publication viralizes on social networks, the family of Vitória reported the case to the São Paulo police.
By note, the São Paulo Public Security Bureau said the case is investigated as injury through a police inquiry in the 14th Police District of Pinheiros. “The mother of the victim was heard and the steps continue to proper the clarification of the facts, as well as the responsibility of those involved,” said the SSP.
The Public Prosecution Service of São Paulo informed the CNN which was filed, on Tuesday (8), a news of fact reporting what happened. “The case is being analyzed by the prosecution,” he said.
The Case of Victory
When he was born, Vitória Chaves da Silva was diagnosed with a serious congenital heart disease called Ebsstein anomaly, a rare disease that affects the heart valve.
The 26 -year -old has undergone four surgical transplant procedures, three heart and one in kidney. The first of these was in childhood in 2005. The second in 2016 and the third in 2024.
Vitória died due to septic shock and chronic renal failure in February. Death occurred a year after the third heart transplant and two years after a kidney transplant, which was compromised during the girl’s heart treatment.
