YouGov survey: 27% of US residents agree to legalize BTC as a means of payment

27% of US residents would support the government’s initiative to recognize bitcoin as legal tender. The initiative enjoys the greatest support among young people.

According to a poll by research and analyst firm YouGov, 11% of respondents strongly support the idea that bitcoin should be used as legal tender in the United States, and another 16% of respondents would approve of such an initiative to some extent.

4912 US residents took part in the survey. According to the results, there are more Democratic respondents among those willing to support the decision to recognize BTC as legal tender. About 29% of Democrats would fully or partially support such an initiative, while 26% of Republicans supported such a decision.

The initiative received the greatest support among young people. 44% of respondents aged 25 to 34 are in favor of accepting BTC as legal tender. However, almost the same number of survey participants aged 57 to 75 are categorically against this idea (43%), and only 11% in general support the proposal.

According to the results, income has a significant impact on people’s attitudes towards cryptocurrency: respondents who earn more than $ 80,000 a year are twice as likely to support the idea of ​​legalizing bitcoin as a means of payment (21%) than those who earn less than $ 40,000 (11%) …

The survey was conducted against the backdrop of the entry into force of El Salvador’s law to accept bitcoin as legal tender in the country. At the same time, most of the population of El Salvador opposes the government’s initiative. At the end of August, there were even large-scale protests in the country against the legalization of the first cryptocurrency.
