Young man falls from building while using cell phone: what is known about the case

Carol Oliveira, aged 22, died after fall from the top of a building in Balneário Camboriú, in Santa Catarina, on the night of last Sunday (8).

She fell from the helipad a 22-story building in the city of Santa Catarina. The young woman was found dead by authorities at the scene.

A video shows the moment Carol falls from the building, after becoming distracted while using her cell phone. The video was recorded by her brother.

Who was Carol Oliveira

Carol was athlete on the women’s tutsal team from Centro de Tijucas. In a statement, the club mourned the death of the member known as “Carolaine”. She defended the team in the Tijucas Women’s Municipal Futsal Championship in 2024.

In addition to her passion for futsal, the young woman was Corinthians fan and used a photo with the team’s shirt on his social media profile.

How did she fall from the building

The young woman fell from the Império do Sol Building, in Balneário Camboriú, after falling distract yourself while playing with your cell phone. Her brother recorded a video that shows the moment in which the woman walks around the helipad with her cell phone in hand and her gaze fixed on the screen.

Without realizing it, Carol walks towards the edge of the building, trips and falls.

What the firefighters say

According to the Fire Department, the young woman’s brother told the military that the two were carrying out video recordings at the scene and that in a moment of distraction the girl fell.

Who responded to the incident

The death was confirmed by authorities at the scene. Response to the incident was supported by the Armed Municipal Guard, Military Police, Civil Police, Scientific Police and agents from the Medical-Legal Institute, who went to the building to carry out expertise and preserve the victim’s body.
