Young man says he was a victim of homophobia at a gym in Fortaleza

A 22-year-old man reports having been a victim of homophobia while training at a gym in Fortaleza (CE). According to him, the case occurred last Monday (11).

Emenson Rodrigues stated that she was training with a friend when an argument began with two other women over the use of a device. His friend even exchanged physical attacks with one of them.

In a report on social media, Emenson’s friend reported the case: “She asked how many [séries de exercícios] There were two left for us to finish and I replied that there were two more to go. She asked: ‘are there two left?’ But then another chair became vacant and I thought everything was fine and we could finish”, said Letícia Guedes.

However, moments later, the women began to offend Letícia and Emenson, which caused an argument. The victim says that the women made fatphobic and homophobic insults against them.

In a statement, the Max Forma Academia gym informed that it “values safety, well-being and respect among all its members” and reinforces that episodes of inappropriate behavior “are treated seriously and responsibly”.

“We remain committed to offering a safe and welcoming environment for all our students and we will reinforce our coexistence guidelines to prevent similar situations in the future, as well as being at the disposal of the competent authorities”, informed the academy.

THE CNN contacted the state Public Security Secretariat, but did not receive a response until the last update of this report.
