Young man who became quadriplegic dies after falling during jiu-jitsu training in RJ

Young Douglas Braga, 15 years old, who had become quadriplegic after a fall during jiu-jitsu training, died last Monday (18), at the Nova Iguaçu General Hospital, in Rio de Janeiro.

His health condition was very serious. He suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and doctors from the Intensive Care Center (CTI) provided resuscitation. However, he ended up not resisting.

During the accident, which happened on July 27, Douglas suffered trauma to his cervical spine and underwent emergency surgery.

However, he presented clinical and neurological complications during treatment.

The Renan Teodoro Training Center, which the teenager attended, regretted the episode.

“What happened was a fatality, considering that all training is supervised and carried out following all safety rules. We understand the family’s pain, but for us this moment has also been very difficult”, he said.

“It is an irreparable loss. Douglas was an exemplary student and an incredible human being. At this moment we sympathize with the family and respect their pain”, he concluded.
