The YouTube video team has made an important change to their advertising policy.

YouTube banishes alcohol, gambling and politics from top ad spot

YouTube will no longer accept ads related to alcohol, gambling, elections and politics, or prescription drugs for the main ad slot – the top banner displayed at the top of the website and app.

A Google spokesman explained to TheVerge that the new restrictions are intended to “improve the user experience.”

The ad block on the top banner is the first thing many users see when they open YouTube. It is understood that avoiding advertising for drugs, alcohol, or gambling will make YouTube better suited to be viewed by users of different age groups.

On the political front, the new restriction will help YouTube avoid controversy and scandals like the one that arose when then-President Donald Trump bought the top banner for three days during the 2020 election.
