YouTube is blocking access worldwide to channels linked to Russian state-funded media, the company said today, citing a policy banning content that refutes or downplays well-documented violent incidents.
Alphabet Inc., Google’s largest streaming video service in the world, said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is now part of its policy of violence.
“Our community guidelines prohibit the denial, refutation or degradation of well-documented violent incidents, and we remove content related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine that violates this policy,” said spokesman Farshad Sandlo. “According to this, with immediate effect, we also exclude YouTube channels related to Russian state media, worldwide,” he added.
