YPOIK’s response to Iliopoulos for EFK and Lagarde position: SYRIZA continues to govern with lies

“The Official Opposition continues to govern with lies and does not hesitate to distort even the statements of the President of the ECB, in order to build its opposition narrative”, the Ministry of Finance states in response to the statement of the SYRIZA spokesman, that even the head of the ECB favors as a measure the reduction of the Excise Duty on fuel for the duration of the crisis.

In particular, in a statement the press office of the Ministry of Finance states:

“At the time when Messrs. Mitsotakis, Staikouras and Georgiadis rule out the reduction of the EFC in fuel with ridiculous allegations, even the head of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, after the Commission, favors the proposal of SYRIZA-Progressive “When asked about the crisis, Mr. Papadimoulis answered that it is a measure that can be implemented for as long as the crisis lasts, in order to alleviate our most vulnerable fellow citizens.”

We quote the exact answer of Mrs. Lagarde, which is as follows: “Now, I think the second question you asked had to do with the treatment offered by governments from a fiscal point of view to alleviate the difficulties that our fellow Europeans are facing in the event of high energy prices. Obviously, the European Commission has taken a position, has published a list of possible tools that can, in our view, from a budgetary point of view focus on the most vulnerable, should be short-term and should be applied for as long as prices I’m not exactly familiar with the kind of measure provided by the Greek authorities, but, you know, some kind of general VAT does not seem to be the targeted tool. recommended in order to really lighten the burden on those who are most vulnerable the I”.

As it appears from the original statement of Mrs. Lagarde – which SYRIZA deliberately omits to mention, apparently because it does not suit him – the head of the ECB says the exact opposite of what the Official Opposition claims and speaks of the need to support the most vulnerable citizens during the crisis.

This is exactly what the Government has been doing for months now, having so far allocated € 1.75 billion to support the most vulnerable households and businesses from energy price hikes.

“The Official Opposition continues to govern with lies and does not hesitate to distort even the statements of the President of the ECB, in order to build its opposition narrative.”
